Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a Martial Arts coming straight from Brazil, better known by the abbreviation of jjb, this Martial Arts is a demanding sport requiring good mental and physical capacity. For this practical purpose you will need, among other things, your BJJ kimono and a belt, a jjb belt.
Choosing your BJJ kimono
The BJJ kimono is in principle more resistant to twisting than a classic Judo kimono, because the latter is in reality much more used during bjj training sessions or even in competition.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial arts where you grab and pull your opponent in all directions. The Brazilian Jiu jitsu kimono is therefore made according to the constraints imposed by this sport.
You can therefore pull on it in all directions and in all ways, your kimono will not deform or even tear.
Numerous reinforcements are present, notably at the collar, armpits, between the legs and even the knees in order to make a robust jjb kimono that can withstand the most intense ground combat sessions.
You can start Brazilian Jiu jitsu with a Judo kimono because they are sufficiently robust, however the difference is in the cut. A Judo kimono has a wider cut to allow for more accessible grabs, unlike a jjb kimono where the cut will be more adjusted to produce the opposite effect.
Please note, if you wish to compete in Brazilian Jiu jitsu, a Judo GI is not approved by the BJJ federation, the IBJJF.
Shrink BJJ kimono
After machine washing, a kimono may shrink up to 10 cm. A little important information, a kimono even indicated as pre-shrunk will still shrink during washing, less pronounced than a classic kimono but it will still shrink. To limit this phenomenon, we recommend not putting your BJJ kimono in the dryer.
